This is a really special book for US history buffs. If you wish to know what was taught about American history at the turn of the 20th century, over one hundred years ago, you will enjoy this book. From Discovery and Colonization to Accession of Theodore Roosevelt, 1901. The author says "The aim of this book is to give the main facts of the history of the United States clearly, accurately, and impartially". Appendix includes The Declaration of Independence. The Constitution. and other information. 504 pages. Black and white maps and illustrations throughout (a very few in color). The front and back page are colored maps.

Title: "A History of the United States:
Author: Allen C. Thomas, A.M. Author of "An Elementary History of the United States," and Professor of History in Haverford College, Pennsylvania
Publisher: D.C. Heath & Co. Publishers
Copyright: 1893
Edition: 1903 New Edition Rewritten and Newly Illustrated

This is a hardback edition with brown fabric boards and an image of the US Eagle on the front cover. The binding is red leatherette with gold printing. The biggest issue is the top and bottom of the binding is torn and tattered. The covers are in nice shape otherwise. The sewn binding remains intact and the pages are quite clean, no underlining or highlighting, no marks of any kind. Lightly toned only. Numerous helpful side-notes, in-text illustration plates, maps; maps on endpapers. Former owner name on inside of front cover and flyleaf.

There are other copies noted in my research, but none quite as nice as this one. For some reason the top and bottom of the binding broke down on all that I saw.
