Antique Royal Bayreuth Bavaria Tapestry The Bathers

Antique Royal Bayreuth Bavaria Tapestry The Bathers

$75.00
This is such a fine piece of antique Royal Bayreuth porcelain from the early 1900s, "The Bathers", and it is a bit scandalous as well! The creamer/pitcher is hand painted with brown and green trees and surrounding soft pastel colors of pink, blue and green with a brown foot. Really wonderful colors and the scene is fun - a castle in the background and stag and three bathing beauties in the foreground - and if ou look close enough you will note one is topless. Oh My!

The tapestry finish was accomplished by placing a textured cloth against the wet porcelain creating the "tapestry" look. It even has a cloth feel to the touch. Heavy gold paint on the outside of the handle and along the top rim of the pinched spout.

The bottom is marked with the two lion crest and Royal Bayreuth PT Priv 1794 Bavaria in a soft blue stamp. Similar pieces appear on page 91 of the book Royal Bayreuth Collectors Guide by McCaslin at a a price of $375-$400. There is a note from the original owner that indicates this value as well.

This creamer is in excellent condition. No chips or cracks or crazing and the finish is very nice on the piece. The only noted imperfection is some rubbing off of the gold paint around the top rim.

Really, really nice piece!
