Vintage Italy Ceramic Dishes with Hand Painted Cherubs

$18.00
I learn so much when I find new treasures. These darling little trinket dishes are hand painted ceramic with a scene of three cherubs in a garden, two of which are working on something together that is part of the bowl they have and the third is heralding their progress! They are marked on the back Capodimonte 849 Italy. I learned that these should be referred to as Capodimonte-style due to their nature. They are original pieces that are fashioned after a very specific style of antique porcelain.

Capodimonte porcelain owes its name to the hilly area of Naples, where in the first half of the eighteenth century King Charles of Bourbon and his wife Maria Amalia of Saxony founded the Royal Factory of Capodimonte. Sources indicate - The original, fantastic stuff that’s over-the-top beautiful, is nearly nonexistent on the market. A lot of it is in museums or private collections.” That’s because the timeline of royal Capodimonte porcelain is decidedly brief. From beginning to end, its manufacture lasted approximately 75 years. Although secondary manufacturers have built upon the aesthetic and kept the name alive, some connoisseurs of the royal product feel these pieces should be labeled “in the style of” Capodimonte.

This is a set of two matching bowls. Due to their hand painted style, they are similar, but not exactly the same. The color scheme is baroque green, orange, gold and yellow on a white background. The outside rim is painted with a heavy gold line.

These little trinket bowls are in mint condition with no paint loss, chips, cracks or repairs. There is some darkening of the finish on the underside of one of the bowls.
