Vintage Japan Lusterware Celery Dish with Flowers and Tropical Bird

Vintage Japan Lusterware Celery Dish with Flowers and Tropical Bird

$24.50
This is such a fine little piece of vintage Japan hand painted lusterware from the 1920s or 30s. The shape of the dish leads me to believe it was originally for celery or condiments but could be used for candy, nuts, mints, relishes, mini, mini, cookies, or just whatever you want to put in it. It has two little handle slots on each end.

The inside of the piece is lusterware with an iridescent finish. The top rim is painted in soft blue and the inside of the bowl is the traditional light orange/tan you see in pieces of this genre and style. Painted on the bottom of the bowl is two lovely sprays of pink flowers with a brightly colorful tropical bird.

The mark on the back of the bowl indicates Hand Paint Made in Japan with the Takito Company maker’s mark on the back. The mark dates this to the 1920s-1930s.

The dish is in very nice vintage condition with no chips, cracks or crazing. The paint and finish are in really nice, vintage condition. There are a few blemishes in the surface of the bowl that I believe are original to the manufacture. Some age spotting on the surface as well. The back is bright white and in great shape with only surface usage marks along the bottom foot.
