Vintage Wood Frame Embossed Landscape Prints, Set of 3, Made in Japan

Vintage Wood Frame Embossed Landscape Prints, Set of 3, Made in Japan

$45.00
These are fascinating quirky little pieces from late 1940s Japan. There are three scenes in identical wood frames with variegated edges. The scenes have a background print with an embossed or dimensional paint to accents parts of each of the prints.

#1 - Mountain stream in early spring with built up paint on the birch tree leaves and the flowers bordering the water.
#2 - Quaint cottage on a mountain lake with birds in the foreground. The built up paint is on the bright red roof of the cottage, the three white water birds and the vegetation on the shore and in the trees behind the house.
#3 - Lighthouse overlooking a large body of water with boats. The paint is built up along the edges of the cliff and the vegetation in the foreground.

I've never come across anything like these and thought they might be just what someone was looking for to complete their gallery wall - and add a touch of whimsy.

The prints are each glued on to a simple wood board, which in turn is glued to the simple wood frames. There are a few nicks in the frames. Print #1 & #2 are in really nice condition. Print #3 has crackling in the surface of the blue sky.

There is no identification marking on any of the pieces. I was told they were Made in Japan in the 1940s and they certainly match the style and craftmanship of that time frame.

You could add these to a collection of nature scenes or prop them on a bookshelf or mantel. You will definitely not find these in many other homes!
