“CHEESE, WINE & BREAD” COOKBOOK & VINTAGE GIFTSETS”

Chef, travel blogger, author, and my daughter-in-law, Katie Quinn, debuted her brand new, drool-inducing cookbook, “Cheese, Wine, and Bread: Discovering the Magic of Fermentation in England, Italy, and France” on April 27, 2021!

In celebration of the launch, we’ve curated a limited edition collection inspired by the delicious recipes featured in the cookbook! Create your own one-of-a-kind gift set by selecting a gorgeous cheese, wine, or bread vintage item (or one of each!) and pairing it with the “Cheese, Wine, and Bread” cookbook.

As part of the CHEESE Collection, this listing is for a set of antique twist-handle Brazil CHEESE or butter knives. Select the option of buying just the knives or the knives and book set below. Don’t forget to add gift wrapping at the checkout for an extra special presentation!

My sister-in-law's family was parting with the estate of their grandparents and Warmth & Cheer was the lucky recipient of much of their 1880s - 1940s silverware, dinnerware and kitchen items. The silverware had been stored unpolished for years and I was able to bring them back to their formal glory with a lot of elbow grease and silver polish. These twisted handle butter knives are really special pieces of this collection.

I believe these Brazil Silver butter knives are from the late 1800’s. They have a twisted handle with a fiddle handle pattern. The "fiddle" pattern had its origins in France about 1675, but is not found in English silver until a century later. Its handle's shape resembles a fiddle (violin) with the stem like a finger-board and the body with smooth parallel sides extending towards a rounded terminal. This pattern was also very common in American coin silver, was highly popular in the early part of the 19th century and generally replaced the Old English as the most popular pattern. They are engraved, one has an Old English M and the other an Old English S.

These knives would serve well as multipurpose serving utensils for firm cheeses, soft spreads, charcuterie, hors d'oeuvres and of course, butter! I love the way they sit so regally on their own, waiting to be put to use. A simple way to dress up any buffet or dinner table.

These knives are in very nice condition, no plate loss or pitting. The points of the knives are still quite distinct but I would imagine they have not been sharpened in a very long time. They have had an initial cleaning and polishing and are ready for the final finish.

This would make a wonderful addition to a gift basket of cheese and fruit or for use on the Christmas buffet for the appetizers that are sure to be included.
