Vintage Japan Wooden Hand-Painted Happy Face Corkscrew

Vintage Japan Wooden Hand-Painted Happy Face Corkscrew

$15.00

Pair your “Cheese, Wine, and Bread: Discovering the Magic of Fermentation in England, Italy, and France” book with this whimsical wooden happy face WINE corkscrew!

This is so cute! Just try and look at it perching amongst the other bar tools and not smile! Can't you just picture this at your next cocktail party sitting pertly at the ready to entertain your guests with its functional whimsy! I believe this is from the 1950's Japan and was hand-painted although there is no marking anywhere indicating their province. The corkscrew handle is cleverly disguised as a white hat with a red top and red polka dots. Beneath the "hat" is the perky little face. Beneath it all, a silver metal corkscrew.

The piece is in good shape and there is little or no rust on the metal. The paint is a bit tired, particularly on the white hat but it has not reached the level of being called chippy. I would classify it as scuffed. The paint on the face is in very good shape.

Dimensions:

5 3/4" long, 1 1/2" long for corkscrew only

1" wide at widest part of hat (handle)
