Vintage Children's Choice Book Club Hardcovers - Set of 9 Classic Stories

$65.00
This is a set of nine books from the early 1980s Children's Choice Book Club from Scholastic Book Services. This is a wonderful set of titles that stand the test of time, from the 1940s through 1980s. They were all from a collection of my friend's grandson and two of them have his name written on the inside. They are all in really nice condition. No tearing of pages, no scribbling inside. They do have light corner and edge rubbing and some mild storage and usage marks on the covers. They are all hardcover books and would be an instant collection that would delight the 4 - 8 year old set. Details regarding each is as follows:

1. "Bullfrog Grows Up" by Rosamond Dauer, Illustrated by Byron Barton. Greenwillow Books Publisher. Copyright 1976. A family of mice raises a card-playing, bath-taking tadpole who as a bullfrog begins to eat alarming amounts.
2. "Blueberries for Sal" by Robert McCloskey. Viking Press Publisher. Copyright 1948. It was awarded the Caldecott Honor in 1949. The story features a little girl, Sal, and her mother as they go and pick blueberries for winter—and a bear cub and his mother as they go and eat berries for winter from the other side of the same hill. Set in a small town in Maine this picture book piece uses a single dark blue color and block printing for the illustrations. Sal and Sal’s mother are modeled after McCloskey’s daughter, Sally, and wife Peggy. Blueberries for Sal was ranked number 13 among the “Top 100 Picture Books” in a 2009 survey published by School Library Journal. It was ranked number 31 in a reiteration three years later.
3. "Make Way for Ducklings" by Robert McCloskey. Viking Press Publisher. Copyright 1941. Mrs. Mallard was sure that the pond in the Boston Public Gardens would be a perfect place for her and her eight ducklings to live. The problem was how to get them there through the busy streets of Boston. But with a little help from the Boston police, Mrs. Mallard and Jack, Kack, Lack, Nack, Ouack, Pack, and Quack arrive safely at their new home. This brilliantly illustrated, amusingly observed tale of Mallards on the move has won the hearts of generations of readers. Awarded the Caldecott Medal for the most distinguished American picture book for children in 1941, it has since become a favorite of millions.
4. "Much Bigger Than Martin" Story and Pictures by Steven Kellogg. Dial Press Publishers.
Copyright 1976. A little boy dreams about being bigger than his big brother.
5. "A House is a House for Me" by Mary Ann Hoberman, Illustrated by Betty Fraser. Viking Press Publisher. Copyright 1978. This is a wonderfully illustrated children’s book about the numerous different ways of what a dwelling is for living things and inanimate objects. Extremely engaging.
6. "Little Fox Goes to the End of the World" A Story by Ann Tompert, with pictures by John Wallner. Crown Publishers. Copyright 1976. Little Fox tells her mother all the frightening things she'll see and do when she travels to the end of the world.
7. "Ira Sleeps Over" by Bernard Waber. Houghton Mifflin Publisher. Copyright 1972. Ira is thrilled to spend the night at Reggie's, until his sister raises the question of whether he should take his teddy bear.
8. "Sylvester and the Magic Pebble" By William Steig. Windmill Books Publisher. Copyright 1969. Sylvester can’t believe his luck when he finds a magic pebble that can make wishes come true. But when a lion jumps out at him on his way home, Sylvester is shocked into making a wish that has unexpected consequences. After overcoming a series of obstacles, Sylvester is eventually reunited with his loving family.
9. "No Roses for Harry" by the author and artist of "Harry the Dirty Dog" By Gene Zion, pictures by Margaret Bloy Graham. Harper and Row Publishers. Copyright 1958. Poor Harry gets a hand knitted floral sweater as a gift from Grandma and he sure is not happy about it! He tries to “lose” it multiple times to no avail! A fun story!

Each of these books is listed separately for $10 - $15 but I have priced this collection to make sure these classic children's stories have another family to love them! This is just a really fun set of books for a family of early readers - and those who love classic stories of overcoming challenges along life's paths - child, or not!
