This is a really fun vintage set - A Dolch Phonics Game - Consonant Lotto - helps children HEAR consonants and consonant blends. This game was a teaching aid to help children learn consonants and consonant blends combinations. The object of the game is to match consonant sounds of the lotto card images to the square cover pieces.

This is a boxed set that includes the following components:

-8 Yellow Heavy Cardboard Consonant Lotto Cards. Imagery printed in black ink. Five of these cards are the "Single Consonant or Digraph Cards" and 3 are "blend cards".
-48 White Heavy Cardboard Cover Cards. Imagery printed in dark green ink.
-Yellow Cardboard Key for Words Represented by Pictures
-White Paper Fold Out Directions

The simple imagery of the Lotto Cards and Cover Cards is quite compelling and of the period that the game was developed. The Directions are copyright 1949 by E.W. Dolch and the front the box is Copyright 1956 by E.W. Dolch. The Garrad Publishing Company produced the set.

The original box is in amazing structural condition- little to no corner damage and edge wear. There is quite a bit of coloring fading on the sides of the top paper cover. Both sets of cards are very clean with no funny odors. Some of the cover cards are darker than others from aging. The Lotto cards themselves have darkening around the edges from aging as well.

What a fun back to school or teacher gift or addition to your vintage card collection. It would be fun to play this with your children/grandchildren today as well!

Note - these cards, if not used in a learning capacity, make GREAT ephemera for crafts: Scrapbooking, card making, journaling, junk journals, mixed media art, college, decoupage, tags-limited by your own imagination!
