Vintage Policeman Doll & "People Who Work for Us" Book: 1939 Children's Play Set

$25.00
What a fun little set to celebrate the people who help us in our day to day lives, with a vintage flair! The set includes a handmade poseable doll and a little book about community helpers.

Doll - While I could find quite a few similar pieces to this cutie, I could not find an exact match so I am uncertain of the brand. This is a hand made doll made from sisal/rope/thread with a painted face, poseable limbs and a blue felt policeman's suit, complete with buttons and belt and stripes on the sleeve. The hat is of the style of a British "Bobby". The little figure has feet that allow if to stand on it's own very well. I believe it is likely from the 1970s or so and has held up very well. The blue of the suit is slightly faded, one of the hands has a few loose strings and the hair on one side mussed. The black paint of the boots is scuffed. Otherwise it is really nice. The uniform looks a lot like that of the Policeman on Page 10 of the book (except for the difference in the hat). Dimensions: 6 1/2" tall, 2" wide at feet, 1 1/2" deep at hands

Book - "People Who Work for Us", by Mae McCrory, is "Little Wonder Book No 214. It is a nifty photo-essay about how people in the community work for the family. The book was published in 1939, issued by the Charles E. Merrill Company.

It's a sweet little book and the photographs are excellent, capturing, as they do, the reality of all the people in day to day living that work for the family. The photographs depict a family with a mother, father and two children Jean and Buddy as they go through their day to day routines and work on building a new house for their family. The workers that are portrayed are Many People Help to Build the House, The Movers, The Playhouse Builders, The School Policeman, The Safety Game, The Firemen, The Baker, The Grocer, The Milkman, The Postman, Newspaper Carrier, Men Clean the Streets, Other Workers, People Who Help us Travel.
