Vintage 1950s Dark Brown Lamb Fur Car Coat with Silk Lining

Vintage 1950s Dark Brown Lamb Fur Car Coat with Silk Lining

$100.00
This was found at an Estate sale of my Sister-in-laws neighbor. She indicated that her neighbor was always an impeccable dresser and based on her other items and pieces in the sale, I would agree. She also helped me date the coat as the sewn-in initials were for her neighbor's maiden name and she likely married in the mid 1950s. We believe this is from the early 1950s based on that knowledge. There is no label in the coat, but it comes with a substantial wooden hander from Wagner's in Ann Arbor, a very high end department store.

This coat is in very good vintage condition. The fur appears to be flaw free and the lining is equally nice. I would classify this as a "car coat" style. It really is a beautiful piece with mid-century styling. My belief is that it is dyed lamb's wool and around a size large, based on how it fits me (I wear a small and it is large in the chest and sleeves on me)

The coat has two small closures on the front that are metal with cloth covering. One is up near the neck, to snug the collar in around the neck and the second is just around the bust line. They are in excellent condition and hold the coat closed well. When closed, it is quite warm and comforting. The fur is very soft to the touch and has a nice silky look. It is lined with a burgundy silk/nylon with a sweet print of a Victorian lady scattered about. It is hand stitched around the entire edges and there are no rips, tears or loosening of that stitching. The sleeves are fully lined as well. There are two hidden hand pockets that are lined in brown felt with ribbon trim. They are in perfect condition as well. There are two kick pleats at the back of the coat for ease of wearing while seated. The sleeves have larger cuffs on the end.

The only aging I note is with the lining. There is a darkening of the lining at the center; it is lighter in color around the edges. There are also wear spots along the bottom edge of the lining and one tiny hole. (I only noticed it when measuring!) There is a mark where the original label once was and a few little pin holes up near that spot. JRM initials are sewn on the lining. There are no off odors.
