Antique Christmas and New Year Post Cards

$21.00

I have put this collection together from an assortment of different time frames, languages and holiday greetings, but they are all pulled together by their theme of joy during the end of year holiday season.

The listing includes five different items.

Two Christmas themed post cards from the 1900's.

- Merry Christmas. Santa is dreamily displayed in the upper right hand corner as the two children sleep on their stools in front of the open hearth. Copyright 1907 by H.I. Robbins Boston. Dated December 23, 1908 on the back with the message, I wish you a Merry Christmas with a lot of presents and a Happy New Year. To Julia S. Locke Clinton Grove New Hampshire. No postmarked. Really special drawing that reminds me of children's picture books of that time frame. Portions of the image are raised up. Corners are scuffed and the back is darkened with age but the colors are still quite vibrant on the front. Dimensions: 3 1/2" x 5 1/2"

-I Wish you All the Joys of Christmas. A young boy sits in front of the open hearth playing with a toy. The image is surrounding with Christmas greenery and flourishes and the message is in fancy script. Postmarked December 1901 (?) and sent to Mrs. Elixia M. Ward Hardwick Vermont c/o Mary E. Ward from Carroll Ward. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Portions of the image are raised up. Corners are scuffed and the back is darkened with age but the colors are still quite vibrant on the front. Gold leaf borders. Dimensions: 5 1/2" x 3 1/2"

Two New Year themed post cards:

- A Swedish family around the open hearth praying. The inscription reads God, who has the children, look to me as a little boy Good new year. On the back is A very Happy Christmas Ealsy Andersan from Mrs. Carlson. It has a very intricately drawn household scene with raised features of the spinning wheel and the father reading, done in soft holiday colors. Great shape with just a few ruffles on the corners and some random pencil marks on the back. Was not postmarked. Thinking this is also from the 1900's but not dating can be found on the card. Dimensions: 3 1/2" x 5 1/2"

-A Hearty New Year greeting with an inviting hearth scene and a look through the windows at the outdoor winter landscape. Off white background with fine detail in the drawing. No writing on the card anywhere and was not postmarked. In very nice condition with just age related color fading and slightly ruffled corners. Not sure of the age. Dimensions: 3 1/2" x 5 1/2"

One double sided Christmas Greeting card from the 1950's.

- Tidings of great joy I bring. A cherubic shepherd boy in the field with three lambs is greeted by the message from an angel. Inside is the message: There were shepherds abiding in the field Keeping watch o'er their flocks by night, When a star appeared and angels sang, Of a Savior of love and light. Signed Charles B. An Art Guild of Williamsburg card. Made in USA. A red border surrounds the sweet image. The condition of the card is very nice, with just slight edge ruffling and corner folds. No stains or tears on the card. Dimensions; 4 3/4" x 5 1/2"
