"In 1843, Wallace began writing his first novel, The Fair God, but it was not published until 1873. The popular historical novel, with Cortez's conquest of Mexico as its central theme, was based on William H. Prescott's History of the Conquest of Mexico. Wallace's book sold seven thousand copies in its first year. Its sales continued to rise after Wallace's reputation as an author was established with the publication of subsequent novels." This is the 1898 edition published by Houghton Mifflin and Company with Illustrations by Eric Pape.

This is Volume 1 of a two Volume set and is incredible in it's presentation. The book is covered in bright red cloth with gold and green accents of a Quetzal and Sunflower. There is some dust-dulling to the spine bands and panel edges with some wear and tear on front, corners and edges. The spine is quite tight for the age of the book. The book is over 120 years old and still remains preserved overall; tight, bright, clean and strong. The cover is perfect for display.
