These were a fun little find, tucked away in a back corner of a local antique mall that was having a moving sale. The lithographed images of horseback riders overlooking a mountain stream caught my eye - but then I realized they were actually tri-fold cardboard fans with advertising copy on the back and I was sold. Wouldn't it be fun to keep these in your purse and pull them out when some air movement is needed!

The operation is simple. There are two tabs that stick out from the closed fan. Pull on both and they open up, swiveling on little brass brads. There are fingers holes cut into the bases for ease of use.

The fronts are printed with the lithograph image of a mountain valley and a base of "lace look" design. The backs have the following copy:

"We Keep you Warm in Winter Cool in Summer"

Amazingly, the fans are not ripped or torn and they open and close smoothly. The cardboard on the back has a bit of age darkening.
