This is the perfect plate to take goodies to a friend on! It is a lovely vintage EB Foley China plate made by E. Brain & Co. Ltd. Of Fenton, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire that was produced between 1948 and 1963 as indicated by the maker's mark on the underside of the plate. The piece is square in shape with a gilded scalloped edge and gold patterning on the handles. The center rose bouquet design is in perfect shades of spring and there is a charming gold border design incorporating flowers and gold weaving and scallop designs. The gold plate filigree handles set it off beautifully.

This is not a hand painted piece but what I believe to be transfer ware design. The piece has a superbly shiny glaze. It has a small base that allows for easier lifting and passing of the plate.

This plate is in amazing condition considering its age. There is only the slightest chip on the back on one side that is not visible but can be felt. There is also a few small imperfections on the top that can be felt, but not seen, that really look like they would have been there since manufacture; they are not chips, but rather imperfections in the finish. There are no cracks or crazing on either side of the piece. There is also some minor gold paint loss along the outer edge of the rim. I could see using it as a serving plate for Easter or at a bridal shower or as a display piece on the counter top or open shelves in the kitchen.

It is marked on the back in gold with 1850 EB Foley Bone China Made in England Tudor with the Griffin mark.
