Antique German Chalkware and Wood Miniature Farm Animals

Antique German Chalkware and Wood Miniature Farm Animals

$55.00
What treasures! These were likely originally sold as a play set for children. I think they belong nestled into a shelf or counter in your farmhouse kitchen, or even work at home office, to evoke the simplicity of caring for animals and ending up with delicious food. They are all marked Germany on the bottom. The two sheep are painted chalkware. The cow and goat have carved wood bases with painted chalkware like coatings. They have amazing detail on their faces, including ears and horns, that amazingly are not broken after all these years.

Sheep - Beige painted wooly texture on green bases. Both are grazing so the faces are a bit hidden, but wonderful facial expressions are noted. Germany stamped on the bottom of both. Dimensions - 1 3/4" long, 3/4" wide, 1 1/4" high. Two similar pieces.

Cow - White, black and gray Guernsey cow with detailed surface, including muscles and ripples in the hide. The base of the figure is wood (you can see the wood where the paint has chipped a bit on the legs) Painted face, two horns and ears. One of the horns may have been reattached - expertly done! The paint is like a chalk ware mixture. Faint Germany on the bottom. Dimensions: 3 3/4" long, 1 1/8" wide, 2 1/2" tall

Goat - White Billy goat with detailed surface, including muscles and ripples in the hide. The base of the figure is wood (you can see the wood where the paint has chipped a bit on the legs) Painted face, two horns, goatee and ears. The paint is like a chalk ware mixture. Germany on the bottom. Dimensions: 2 5/8" long, 3/4" wide, 2 1/4" tall
