Antique MIGNON Zeh Scherzer Co.( Z.S. & C) Bavaria Hand Painted Plate

$22.50
Antique Zeh, Scherzer & Company Bavaria German scalloped rim plate having a "Mignon" rose flowered border pattern with gilded accents on the edge. In the center of the plate is the most adorable pastoral scene o a country cottage in the full bloom of summer. There are two contented cows on the front lawn and a milk maid in the front by the gate. Wonderful details in the scene would lend itself well to a summer time buffet, mantel or shelf display or just for a sunny breakfast plate! The colors are soft pastels surrounding a lush green lawn.

The back stamp is Mignon Z.S. & Co. (Zeh, Scherzer & Company) Bavaria in green. My research indicates this mark was used from 1899 - 1910. Other information regarding the company is as follows:

The firm was established in Rehau in 1880 by Johann Nicol Adam Zeh. His partners were Johann Michael Scherzer junior, Georg Adam Winterling, Johann Nicol Jacob junior, Johann Andreas Karl Wolfel and Johann Paulus Hertel.

In 1908 the company opened their own art department. In 1910 it was transformed into a limited company (Porzellanfabrik Zeh, Scherzer & Co. A.G.). It exported over 70 percent of production to United States. Quality of Zeh Scherzer products was compared to Rosenthal or Hutschenreuther.

In 1924 the company bought Porzellanfabrik Elster located in Mühlhausen in Saxony and owned it till 1935. In 1992 the company stopped production of porcelain.

The plate is in beautiful condition with no chips, cracks or compromise to the painting. The edge gold is rubbed off in a few places. There is one very small flea bite on the outside edge and a few stray dark spots that are likely original to the piece. No usage scratches on the image that I can identify. Such a nice find for the summer season!
