Antique Embossed Milk Glass Syrup Jar with Tin Lid

Antique Embossed Milk Glass Syrup Jar with Tin Lid

$36.00
So charming and just waiting to be added to your farmhouse kitchen ironstone and milk glass display. This is a Victorian era milk glass syrup pitcher with an embossed design on the body and handle. Possibly made by The Eagle Glass Co. 1894-1918, only based on research, there is no marking on the bottom.

Many of this era, and design, were hand painted with flowers or gold accents. If this was painted at one time, that paint is gone. There are a few very small faint dark marks on areas of the embossed design that may be paint remnants. It has a colonial style tin lid that has a domed top, a metal neck band and a spring lift mechanism. The springs are still present, but have come loose from the base and would need to be connected to open the lid. I do not think this would be a piece for serving today as there is oxidation and rust on the inside of the tin lid and it may no longer be food safe. Therefore, the spring is not really an issue as the lid sits nicely on top of the piece for display purposes.

The overall piece is in nice, antique condition, showing signs of aging on the metal lid (and the broken springs as noted above) and the few spots of possible paint remnants. There are a few hairline cracks in the glass that would also impede its use with food today.

No manufacturer markings on the metal or the glass.
