Antique School Book Set

$55.00
Really wonderful collection of antique books from the 1880 through the early 1920s. They display very well and add that "gravitas" that may be what you are looking for. The set is three different books, as follows:

1 - The is a 1922 French language copy of A. Daudet Lettres De Mon Moulin (Letters of My Mill) from Heath’s Modern Language Series, Edited by O.T. Robert and published by D.C. Heath & Company. This work is a collection of short stories originally published 1869, early in Daudet's career. It is in really nice shape for it's age. The blue cloth bound hard cover is still bright (much cleaner than others noted in my research). The binding is tight and all pages are included. There is some slight scuffing on the cover of hardcover, shelf wear at both top and bottom of spine and bent corners. Two names are written in pencil or ink on the inside cover and notes regarding the pages of the book on the back page in pencil. It appears to have been used as a French language lesson book. Dimensions: 6 3/4 x 5 1/4 x 1/2.

2 - This is the Home and School Library, Six Selections from Irving's Sketch Book by Homer B. Sprague, PH.D. Assisted by M. E. Scates. Includes Notes, Questions, Etc. for Home and School Use. Published by Ginn and Company The Athenaeum Press 1903, Copyright 1878 H. Sprague. The six Washington Irving stories included are The Voyage, Westminster Abbey, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, The Widow and Her Son, Rip Van Winkle, Christmas Eve. Includes a Chronology of Washington Irving's life in the front introduction section.

The book is in very good structural condition with solid spine, no missing pages. The cover has quite a bit of wear, stains and corner and edge roughness. The inside pages are darkened with age. Name written in pencil on front page inside front cover. No other writing. No illustrations. Dimensions: 7 1/8" x 5" x 1/2"

3 - This is a first edition of The Appleton's Fifth Reader from 1880 by William T. Harris which is a vintage children's school book filled with wonderful stories and illustrations. These old readers are special in the historical context of the story subjects and the artistic presentation of the illustrations to accompany them. Includes writings from Ben Franklin, Lord Byron, Thoreau, Dickens, Mark Twain, Sir Walter Scott, Longfellow, Tennyson, Shakespeare, Edgar Allan Poe, Victor Hugo, Robert Burns, George Washington, Washington Irving, Lewis Carroll, Thomas Jefferson, J.J. Audubon, and John Milton. If you don’t have this one for your collection of old readers, it is a must-have!

My internet search identified a few of these books available but most in much harsher condition. This one is in good condition. No torn pages or missing pages and the hinges and binding are good. Hinge is cracked on title page with some threading visible. Interior pages are darkened with age with a few black and white illustrations. The cover is hard bound with a wrapped leather binding. There are random stains and rubbed edges on the cover and age marks on both the inside and back cover pages. There are two stickers on the front fly leaf - one from the R. T. Hearson Druggist & Bookseller, Attica, Ohio and one of Beethoven that looks rather new. There are pencil marks on the opposite page and Mr. Franklin L. Ohler Attica Ohio December 20 1880 and also 9/2.907. 471 pages in total, 130 pages of stories and poems and 30 Phonetic Tables at the back of the book. Dimensions: 5 1/4" x 7 1/2" x 1 1/4"
