Framed Antique Punch Paper Victorian Lady Needlework

Framed Antique Punch Paper Victorian Lady Needlework

$42.00
This listing is for a fabulous antique Victorian "punch paper" framed Victorian lady. From afar, the piece looks like it is hand stitched on cloth. When you get closer, you can see the tiny holes in paper. I have sold a few of this punch paper samplers and this is my best guess as to the origins of this pieces as well. It came from an Estate Sale of collector of Victoriana and I was told it is from the 1880s. Interestingly enough, all the other pieces I find of this type of handiwork are samplers with sayings.
I am not sure if she was part of a bigger piece or an unfinished piece, maybe?

The stitchery on the lady in her Victorian gown is lovely, in shades of green and tans. You can see the unfinished canvas (punch paper) surrounding her.

The frame seems to be from the 1980s with a beautiful mottled brown exterior and an elaborate gold tipped embellished inner design, to compliment the period of the original piece. It was double matted with an oval cutout with a soft green inside rim and creamy outer mat. The frame is in pristine condition and the back paper is complete. It is sturdy. The glass is in good condition as well. There is a hanging wire and it is only missing one bumper on the bottom edge.

The paper backing the piece has but I believe it was left in that condition to authenticate the age of the piece and be true to its condition as found, prior to the reframing.

This is really special and a wonderful piece to compliment other Victoriana in your collection.
Pretty sure this is one of a kind!
