What a great piece of history! This is The Lincoln Reader 1947 Edited by Paul Angle, published by Rutgers University Press. The Lincoln Reader is a compilation biography of different periods of Abraham Lincoln's life written by sixty-five different authors. The book includes 179 integrated narratives and black & white photos.

The Foreward, written by Paul M. Angle, gives a glimpse of the effort necessary to bring this book together -

I wish I could formulate the standard of selection by which I have been guided. It would be gratifying, though presumptuous, to be able to asset that there is the "best" of Carl Sandburg, or Lord Charnwood, or Nicolay and Hay, but I make no such claim. I have simply taken from each author what seemed to fit best at a given point in the book - a fine piece of narrative here, a vivid reminiscence there, a penetrating character study or a contemporary diary entry at other places. Beyond that, all I can say is that I have taken pains to see that no author is unworthily represented.

The Front and back cover, and binding are blue-gray cloth bound with red lettering. There are slight usage/age stains on the cover. The binding is still quite tight and all pages are intact and tight to the binding. There are 564 pages including illustrations, References, Bibliography and Index.

The pages have darkened with age, have some edge ruffling but no significant tears or extraneous writing. It's like a time capsule into the life of Abraham Lincoln and an interesting way to bring a bibliography together through a multitude of voices.
