What a beautiful watercolor piece depicting a quaint homestead in sepia tones. The style of the houses is salt box so I am thinking this was an image from the Eastern Coast of the US. A perfect piece to display on your mantel throughout October and November, or any time at the cabin as a nod to our early American roots. This framed watercolor piece from W H Collins has a very calm composition and is complimented by the neutral mat and simple gold painted frame. The style of the frame and the simplicity of the scene have me guessing this is from the 1930s but I do not know for certain. Something about the delicate signature in the lower left hand corner makes me think of penmanship of that time also.

I could not find any listing for the artist so I will assume it was a friend or acquaintance of the family from which it was purchased at their Estate Sale.

The art piece appears to be in very good condition, as it is under glass. The mat shows signs of having had water damage and there are dark spots along the top edge and the inner oval edge is flaking off pieces of the surface. The frame is less than square in one of the corners and has paint missing in quite a few spots. I would definitely take this piece apart and have the watercolor re-matted and the glass cleaned. The frame has vintage charm but the mat has seen better days.

The back is missing the finishing paper so you can see the small vintage nails holding it all together. There is hanging hardware and a heavy hanging wire.

All in all a very nice presentation of a vintage watercolor!
