Vintage Enid Peterson Along the Shore Framed Watercolor Painting

This is an original work of art entitled, "Along the Shore”, by listed Watercolor artist Enid Petersen

It is an outstanding late 1960s watercolor of a shoreline on a blustery day by listed Milwaukee, Wisconsin artist Enid Petersen (20th century). Petersen was born in Milwaukee, grew up in Texas, and returned to Milwaukee in the 1940s. She studied art at the Layton School of Art in the 1950s and began exhibiting in the late 1950s. Petersen exhibited with the Wisconsin Painters and Sculptors, the Wisconsin Salon of Art, the Wisconsin State Fair, the Society of Milwaukee Artists, and the Cudahy Tower Hotel in Milwaukee.

This is a really nice example of regionalist watercolor painting; the watercolor is signed lower left in red as was her custom. There are also touches of red on the shoreline and birds. The frame bears a label from Suzanne's Art Center in Kalamazoo MI.

I am very comfortable that it is not a print. The painting is in excellent condition, I believe it was behind glass since completion. The frame has a very 1970s vibe and has gold accenting on the medium wood frame. It is really scratch free, except for one small spot on the top that could be touched up with some stain. The corners are very square and it was professionally double matted with soft green and tan mats. It has a brown paper backing and hanging wire. The framing shop is stamped on the back. It is quite heavy. (7 pounds)

This piece is an iconic lakeshore scene from a Midwest artist. Be still my heart!
