This is an absolutely adorable antique children's book entitled Our Darlings. Rhymes and Chimes for Holiday Times by L. P. Miller & Co. Copyrighted in 1888. The front and back cover is made of thick cardboard covered in a bright lithographed scene of a mother with her four children by the Henderson Achert Litho Co.
It has a dark blue cloth end binding. The colors of the front illustration are very bright and cheerful! The back illustration is sepia toned and is a headshot of a pensive little girl in bonnet and lace.

This book is an example of the typical children's book of the late 1800s, early 1900s. Hardcover with a color illustration on the front and interior heavy coarse paper pages with numerous black and white illustrations. The book contains a variety of stories, poems and illustrations and also is an A - Z alphabet book. Some titles include: "Doll and I, Little Chatterbox, Playing at Solider". There are around 50 pages (not numbered) and at least that many black and white illustrations.

Book Condition:

Fair to Poor. Edges & corners worn to boards; Spine is completely loose but all the papers are firmly stapled together with three large staples. Illustrations are very charming. About 10% of the pages are water stained in the bottom corner or have some rips to the paper. There are no pencil or crayon markings in the book. The paper has darkened with age and some of them are quite brittle. This would be a beautiful book for craft purposes or to add to a collection. If you knew how to repair the binding, it would really be nice!
