Vintage Elementary School Reference Books: 1930s-70s Teacher Set
$55.00
Found these books during my "pickin" adventures and thought they came together as a nice set for reference for home school or classroom teachers with just the right amount of vintage vibe! There are four in this set:
1. "Lots More Tell Me Why Answers to Questions Children Ask" by Arkady Leokum, Illustrated by Cynthia and Alvin Koehler, Copyright 1972 Library of Congress. Reference book for answers on a broad range of subjects including the world around us and how it began, the human body, how other creatures live, and how things are made. Slight corner rubbing and edge wear, yellow paper hard cover is still bright. Residual sticker backing in top right corner. Greeting to original owner on first page in ink. Really wonderful black and white illustrations with color coded backgrounds by section. Dimensions: 7 1/4" x 9 1/2" x 1"
2. "500 Live Ideas For The Grade Teacher" by Betty Loise Eckgren and Vivian Fishel, Illustrated by Dorothy Todd, Copyright 1952 Row, Peterson and Company. "Here are 500 ways to add zest, variety, and fun to teaching. This is a book of 500 activities, handicraft project, puzzles, riddles, and games that answer the need for fresh, appealing material in the classroom and on the playground, augmented by more than 175 illustrations. The authors compiled the ideas from their own teaching experiences and associations. In doing so, they have included games and activities that can be correlated with specific subjects. And in each instance they have concentrated on "the practical, on the inexpensive, and on the easy way of making and doing things." Slight corner rubbing and edge wear, cover is still bright. Cover does have some age staining. Binding edge is in good condition and still tight. Pages inside are in excellent condition. No writing in book, binding tight. Dimensions: 5 3/4" x 8 1/4" x 1"
3. "Around Green Hills Teacher's Edition Annotated and Keyed" by Emmett A. Betts and Carolyn Welch, Illustrated by Various, Copyright 1963 American Book Company. Wonderful bright and colorful illustrations on every page. Study pages and vocabulary list in back. Sections and illustrations include: Happy Days, Here Comes the Circus, A Farm in the Hills, From Farms and Gardens, and All Year Long! Farm, Circus, Clowns, Roller Skating, Halloween, Snowmen, Sledding, Country Fair, Pumpkin, and May Day.
Slight corner rubbing and edge wear, cover is still bright. Binding edge is in good condition and still tight. Pages inside are in excellent condition. DISCARD stamped on first page. Dimensions: 6 1/4" x 8 1/4" x 1 1/2"
4. “Stories of Outdoor Science” by Lewis M. Dougan, Illustrations by A.O. Leutheusser, Copyright 1933, Lyons & Carnahan Publishers. This is quite rare and of interest to the degree it was republished in 2013 as it is considered an important book to preserve. It is in very nice condition for it's age, the spine is pretty tight The pages have yellowed a bit. 357 pages.
This was a textbook from the Rock Falls Illinois School District #13 as stamped on the first pages. No writing inside but one page at the back of the book is torn but intact. Really beautiful illustrations. Dimensions: 5 1/2" x 7 5/8" x 1"
This is just a really fun set of reference material for elementary age children and their teachers.
