$45.00
This is a special book from Ellen Tarry and Marie Hall ETS. Ellen Tarry is credited with being the first black woman to author an illustrated children's book (*Janie Belle*, 1940); this is her third book, authored in 1946. This is a wonderfully illustrated (with photographs) by Alexander and Alexandra Alland, children's book of an African-American boy and his dog, Rinty who is initially thought to be a "bad dog" and turns out to be that he and his owner David were the "Pied Pipers of Harlem" in the end. Set in Harlem, NY, it is a cultural and historical gift for all who read it. It should be in your collection!

This book was originally published in 1946. This is the 6th Printing with new plates, 1964 hardback edition. Yellow cloth cover with red lettering. Published by Viking Press.

The Author's note on the new edition reads:

In the seventeen years since My Dog Rinty was first published, there have been very few changes in Harlem. Styles in clothing and automobiles are different, but comparatively few new buildings have become part of the Harlem scene. The hospital and hotel where David delivered the flowers still stna.

Augusta Baker Alexander, the Story Lady, is now Director of Children's Work in all the public libraries in New York City!

Our gratitude to all those who helped make this book possible has grown through the years. To this, we now add our appreciation to the James Weldon Memorial Collection of Negro Arts and Letters at Yale University for the re-use of My Dog Rinty photographs, which are part of that collection.

The book is in very good vintage condition. No dust jacket; light soiling and corner rubs on the front yellow cloth hardcover, wear at the top and bottom of the corners of the spine; pages are clean and crisp and free from marks, tears and foxing. The only writing in the book is Steve Robinson and 44 in pencil and 96 in black ink on the front fly leaf page.

How do I let this go?
