Vintage "Present Day Pictures" by Frances Hook Set No. 2603

$26.00
I was at an Estate Sale of a family that had many educators in the group. It was really fun to find this "Present Day Pictures" Order No. 2603 from Standard Publishing with Frances Hook lithographs for Teaching, Wall Decoration, Gifts and Framing. The original plastic pouch stored them all. The original set was for 12 Present Day Pictures, there are only 11 in this packet.

The back of the storage pouch has the name of each of the illustrations noted, with the corresponding Bible verse that the images represent. They are:

God Gives me Mother and Daddy
God is Love
God Gives Me Food
Thank you, God
God Sends the Rain
God Gives Me Beautiful Things
God Takes Care of the Birds
My Daddy Loves Me
I Can Help
God Takes Care of the Animals
Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep
God Gives Me the Night

I can't quite match up the images to the titles - so I am not sure which one is missing! They are all signed F. Hook and have either 1962 or 1963 in Roman numerals on the bottom of the imagery. Each has some degree of white space around the colored images so they would be wonderful to frame or use in other creative pursuits.

These have been used and the most usage marks is on the back of most with old adhesive and dark spots from where they were put up on the wall. Some of those spots have bled through to the front as well. There is some other age related markings on the imagery as well but, fortunately, nothing has impacted the colored illustrations. They are still quite vibrant and charming. The plastic pouch also has age related smudges and marks but no rips of tears. Personal Property of McKinley is written in black marker across the back.

I can not include pictures of all 11 images due to photo limitations. I would be happy to send you photos of the ones not shown above. Just send me a message!

Frances Hook was most famous for her illustrations of the children featured in Northern Paper Mills advertisements in the late 1950s. It is fairly easy to find those lithographs. I was not able to find any other set that included these images in my research - a little more rare and unique!

Some background on the artist: Frances Arnold Hook (1913- July 23, 1983) was an American artist best known for her pastels of children used as commercial illustrations for advertisements. Her series of promotional prints called American Beauties first appeared in Northern Tissue advertisements in the 1950s and were used on toilet tissue packaging. The images were immensely popular, and were issued as a set of prints. By 1966, 30 million copies of the prints had been sold.
