A throw back to the early readers of the 1930s! "Tommy's Animal Friends" - Book No. 317 from the Saalfield Publishing Company, Akron Ohio, New York, Copyright 1937. No authors are noted for the stories. The illustrator's signature, Diana Thorne, is on each of the beautiful, color illustrations.

There are seven stories incorporating Tommy and his animal friends included in the book. 6 of the 7 stories have color illustrations by Diana Thorne. They are frame worthy!

White Star's First Lesson - pony
Bunny Boy's Unhappy Day - rabbit
Biddy Wee and Little Ed - chickens and fox-terrier puppy
Big Chief Stops a Fight (no illustration) - ram (I believe his picture is on the back cover)
Solomon Plays a Trick - pony
The Lazy Little Pig - piglets
Bucky and Stubby - goats

The cover and pages of the book are heavy paper stock. There is a green binding edge. I'm pretty sure the binding has been re-taped. The staples still are in place, but the inside has been reinforced along the inner edge of the first page as well. The book does have some ruffed edges on the cover and corners, but not really much for a children's book of this age. All the pages are in wonderful condition without rips, tears or corner folding. No writing in the book.

This would make a beautiful book for displaying in the nursery or play room. Could even be framed as the illustrations are so very charming!
