What a fun piece of Americana! This is a vintage Monarch Finer Foods glass Hoosier style canister/jar. These are really hard to find in such useable/displayable condition!

What a fantastic example of early food packaging (before plastic reigned supreme!) with so many wonderful details. Impressed on the front of the canister/jar is the Monarch Finer Foods branding along with their central brand element of a lions head. Both of the sides of the jar have four rows of impressed chevrons to improve gripping ability. The bottom of the jar is impressed with old 1930's Owen Illinois logo. The oval "O" with an "I" in the center and 7 6 2. It has a pebbled surface on the bottom to discourage slippage. There is a painted red metal screw on lid with a gold colored tin base.

The jar is in amazing condition. No chips or cracks in the glass (it is quite substantial). There are a few surface stains on the inside that should be thoroughly scrubbed before use. The metal lid fits securely and screws on and off easily. There are a few chips in the red paint and rubbing of the paint along the edge from the opening and closing action.
