Super cool vintage Thermos brand metal lunch box with original Thermos - sold as a set. The set contains an industrial gray metal lunchbox by American Thermos Products Co, of Norwich, CT and a red striped Thermos Bottle No. 2242/75. The Thermos Co. branding is impressed in the bottom of the lunch box and the Thermos Bottle information is along the bottom edge of the bottle.

The lunch box has been used for it's intended purpose base on the paint spatters, dents, oxidation and surface rust on the outside and the scuffs in the white painted interior from years of moving the Thermos in and out of the holder in the top. All original parts are in place including the wire bail holder for the Thermos in the top and the plug and cup for the Thermos. The front clasps open and close smoothly and there is a sturdy bottom inside. No weird odors.

The Thermos bottle is amazingly free of dents, scratches or tears in the brightly colored label. There are just a few small age spots and the beginning of painting scuffing along the top and bottom rims. The plus and cup are in need of a good cleaning and I do not know if it would be usable for real liquids.

These items worked perfectly for our Labor Day mantel display and would make a great addition to a vintage lunchbox collection as well. It could also be used open to display small potted plants, or could be used to store away unsightly items tucked discreetly inside this vintage little gem. Use it in a mud room to store mittens and gloves, extra shoe laces, shoe polish, etc. Use it in a utility room to store cat/dog flea meds or grooming tools. Use it up on top of your kitchen cupboards to display a collection of bottles inside or fill it with faux greenery for a splash of color. It's fun and nostalgic at the same time.
