What a great piece of history! This is the 1947 edition of The Lincoln Library of Essential Information hardcover book, Seventeenth Edition from original 1924 publishing.

The title page indicates THE LINCOLN LIBRARY OF ESSENTIAL INFORMATION An up-to-date manual for daily reference, for self-instruction, and for general culture. Named in appreciative remembrance of Abraham Lincoln the foremost American exemplar of self-education.
Thoroughly Revised at Each New Printing. The The Frontier Press Company Buffalo NY 1947.

The Preface: The Lincoln Library of Essential Information has been prepared with two controlling ideas constantly in view. One has been to embody in a single volume the largest amount of helpful information for the average reader that has ever been placed between two covers. The other aim has been to select, condense, arrange, and verify the material with a degree of thoroughness and accuracy much greater than has ever been attained in any work of similar scope. In our judgement, confirmed by years of publishing experience, the accomplishment of these aims insures the production of a book that stands in a class by itself.

Separate Sections with Tabs are found for the following contents: The English Language, Literature, History, Geography and Travel, Science, Mathematics, Economics and Useful Arts, Government and Politics, Fine Arts, Education, Biography, Miscellany and Index.

Pages 17 & 18 lists the Illustrations and they are numerous, in both color and black-and-white pictures on everything from world history to fine arts. biology, education and more.

The Front and back cover, and binding are red cloth bound with gold lettering. There are usage/age stains on the cover and it has pulled away from the spine. I found that most copies of this book have done the same as there was quite a bit of torque on the binding from the depth of the book pages when opened. All but a handful of the pages are intact and tight to the binding. There are 2175 foiled pages, 100 full-page illustrations and 12 departmental tabs of contents, making a total of 2287 pages.

The pages have yellowed with age, have some corner folding and edge ruffling but no significant tears or extraneous writing. It's like a time capsule into the world view of 1947, certainly a time of tumultuous change in the world.
