What a fun treasure - Little King Davie or "Kings and Priests Unto God" by Nellie Hellis.

The dedication from the author is intriguing:

To the Rev. William John Knox-Little Canon of Worcester, Etc., To whose teaching she owes much, the author is glad to dedicate this little story, which is founded on one of his sermons and on a certain incident in his own life.

I love old books for the peak into culture and language of our grandparent's day. The dusty gold fabric covered hardcover of the book has the tile in green lettering and a red picture of a child lighting an oil lamp in a pastoral setting. The binding has red lettering and green vine designs. Displays really well and has a Christmas feel from the coloring. There are two black and white illustrations in the book.

Synopsis of the story: Davie was not a king. He was poor yet rich in spirit. He would sing as he swept streets. One day he heard the music from the pipe organ in the church. He stopped to listen and also heard words the preacher said that anyone could be a king. That day changed Davie's life forever. An inspirational children's book that belongs in all family libraries.
