Moving into fall colors and tones for decorating is one of my favorite seasonal changes. Halloween is a nice focal point at the end of that timeframe as well. But, I have always, even as a little girl, been frightened by Halloween "spookiness". This year I have been on the hunt for items that could be used in Fall and Halloween decorating that are fun, light hearted and definitely unique. I have quite the collection brought together. Each item will be posted separately, accompanied by a few photos of vignettes with other items to spark your creativity.

Well, if this doesn't meet the criteria of vintage spooky, I don't know what does. This is a very special circa 1950's - First Aid Snake Bite Kit Suction Type produced by The Pac-Kit Company Greenwich, Conn. This neat kit was a special issue item issued to army GIs, post WWII and there is actually one in the Smithsonian National Museum of American History. Cool! The kit was contained in an orange metal tin and inside include the original tourniquet, 2 adhesive bandages and two rubber suction cups. In the original kit there also were a snake bite lancet, 3 iodine applicators', 3 ammonia inhalants and a glass venom suction syringe that are no longer in this kit (just as well - those seems a bit scary!) The best part though is the Snake Bites are Dangerous Pamphlet with instructions on using the kit and distinguishing Poisonous from Non- Poisonous snakes. There are actually two of this pamphlets in this box.

The tin is in really nice, vintage condition with little to no paint scuffs and no rust. the back left corner is quite dented/crumpled but the lid still opens and closes securely. There are two holes drilled into the bottom of the tin - I wonder if it was used in a wall display at one time?
