Water Color Field Studies -2 Options

from $35.00

This series of water color field studies was found at an English flea market, as described by the individual that was selling them I don't know if this is an accurate story of their province, but they are charming none the less and an affordable way to step into owning original art for your home or office. I would say that the colors and images represented in these pieces certainly are reminiscent of the English countryside, but they are also evocative of the rural area's around our home in Northern Michigan as well.

Study of Trees and Houses - I call this piece, Study of Trees and Houses, as the soft colors of early autumn are beginning to appear in the trees surrounding each of the scenes presented. These are three separate scenes as the houses in two of the vignettes are different and the third is of a small lake. Love the imagery and soft watercolor presentation. This piece is painted on typical cream color watercolor paper, with no backing. Some of the paper is a bit ruffled from the watercolor process but the edges are quite clean. There is a pencil sketch of another tree study on the back. No signature of dating on the piece.

Dimensions: 9 1/4" x 11"

Fallen Tree - I call this piece, Fallen Tree as the center of the image is a fallen tree in an opening of mature trees. The rustic field stone fence in the foreground of the image indicates this may have been an orchard or farmer's pasture at one time. This piece is painted on a lighter colored watercolor paper that is affixed to cardboard. Really cool - a pencil drawn map on the back that may actually be an indicator of where the spot was? There is also red bleed through letters on the back that may have been on the original cardboard? This piece is quite warped from the moisture of the watercolor process and you can see quite a few ridges in the piece, especially at the top of the piece. I wonder if you could remove it from the backing with steam? No signature of dating on the piece. I think you likely could frame this piece and eliminate much of the warped appearance, but not sure. It could be framed as is and hung in your gallery wall in all it's rustic charm!

Dimensions: 10 1/2" x 14 1/2"
